Introduction

In September 2026, Loveleigh Loops, a team of calligraphy teachers launched the Beautiful Handwriting Course. This is a video tutorial course with printable worksheets aimed at teaching the lowercase letters of Spencerian Script using a regular pen. The full price of this course is $50 USD and was initially a 30-day paced release of lessons and worksheets. Students who purchase the course have access anytime afterwards. At this time, the course is complete and all lessons and worksheets are available immediately after purchase.

Why I Was Interested

This course and its worksheets totally appealed to me because I had always wanted to learn Spencerian script and I thought I would be able to recoup my initial investment in the course by referring other students through affiliate marketing. I was able to grab an early bird price of the course at $29, which was a pretty good deal for all those lessons and worksheets. At a 40% affiliate commission rate, two sales would earn back my initial cost. I was already an existing affiliate for Loveleigh Loops’ courses, so I easily logged onto the backend to generate an affiliate link to the course sales page. I put that link right into my Beacons page and directed all my social media to check the link in my bio.

Marketing Plan

So my marketing plan was pretty simple: film myself tracing the worksheets and refer my audience to the link in my profile.

  • The original video was recorded and posted within TikTok
  • The video that auto-saved on my phone was then uploaded to Facebook and Instagram simultaneously as reels

I would break up the daily worksheet into 5 to 9 videos each day and the plan was to do this daily for the 30 days of the course. There were actually a few monetization opportunities with promoting this course, besides selling the course itself, and I tested out all of them along the way.

  • TikTok Shop Affiliate commissions for the pens I was using. In order to do this, I could not hint at or redirect traffic to the link in my bio. Initially, this was a lower priority (with lower revenue potential) than getting people to go to my bio.
  • Facebook content monetization for views. Seemed like an easy revenue source if my reels got enough views.
  • Instagram content monetization for photos and carousels. Another relatively easy revenue source, provided I had enough views.

Phase 1

The first few days, I was trying to see if I could sell pens linked on TikTok while also making the videos. I would only say to check the link in my bio on the caption of Facebook or Instagram reels.

Here’s what happened:

  • No sales of the course
  • No sales of pens on TikTok
  • Low views on Facebook, not enough views to be monetized
  • High views on Instagram reels, not eligible for monetization
  • Low views on photos of the completed worksheets on Instagram, not enough views to be monetized

Phase 2

During this phase, I stopped linking pens on TikTok Shop so that I could put a call to action as text on screen directly on the videos. Pretty basic “Link to worksheet in bio”

Here’s what happened:

  • No sales of the course
  • Low views on TikTok
  • Moderate views on Facebook, some videos made $0.01 or $0.02
  • High views on Instagram reels, not eligible for monetization
  • I did not post any photos on Instagram

I think I stuck with this phase for about a week. Looking at the analytics from Beacons, there were only 60 all-time clicks on the course link (right now, after a month of content). Which isn’t enough volume to expect sales. I’m not even sure if the “Link in Bio” style of marketing is even effective for generating sales in 2026, with how low my link clicks are overall. At this point, the course promotion did not feel promising and I considered stopping my posts about it altogether. However, I still wanted to practice the handwriting style myself and it was only 30 days total, so I planned to just finish it out. Especially since the content itself wasn’t very difficult to me to record.

Phase 3

At this point, since my videos weren’t making me money in course sales, I went back to silently linking pens on TikTok and making shoppable videos. Still reposting the Facebook as reels, but switched to uploading multiple videos together as a carousel on Instagram so that I had the potential to monetize.

Here’s what happened:

  • Still no sales of the course
  • Moderate views on TikTok, I might have sold one pack of pens
  • Moderate views on Facebook, some videos made $0.01 or $0.02, the highest was $0.09
  • Moderate views on Instagram carousels, almost every carousel earned at least $0.01, with the highest at $0.06

Overall Thoughts and Lessons

Trying to promote this course with my nearly silent faceless videos was a bust. With no sales of the course, I’ll likely swap out the link on my Beacons page with something else. My link in bio gets very little use, so probably not ideal for product promotion. Carousels of videos seem to do ok on Instagram, earning me at least a few cents, and that’s better than the nothing I get from Instagram reels.

I do generally like making videos of myself using the worksheets because they’re pretty simple and use the same process that I had when I was promoting my own brush calligraphy worksheets years ago. I had considered investing in more worksheets from Etsy to promote with my affiliate link, but decided this wouldn’t be worthwhile with the low commission rate (10%). I’m even more skeptical now, knowing that very few people click on my link in bio.

My next experiment is with a physical lettering workbook that I purchased from TikTok Shop. I’m hoping that the link on a shoppable video would generate sales more easily. I’ll report back on that product after I test it out.

Conclusion

Overall, I tried and failed this time. Definitely did not make back my initial $29 investment, but on the plus side, got to practice my own script handwriting.
