My favorite thing to crochet is a baby blanket.  I’ve made this colorful swirly style by mixing one solid yarn with one cake yarn. Two worsted weight yarns worked together gives you a nice bulky weight to work with and finish your project quickly.

Materials

Yarn:

Caron Simply Soft (Medium Weight – 4), White, approx. 720 yards 

Caron Cakes (Medium Weight – 4), Rainbow Sherbet, approx. 720 yards

You can substitute any two worsted weight yarns together.

Hook: N,10mm

Yarn Needle

Scissors

Gauge 4” x 4” = 9 sts x 7 rows

Finished Size 33” x 34”

 

Abbreviations

ch chain

hdc half double crochet

hdc2fl half double crochet in the two front loops

in inches

st(s) stitch(es)

yo yarn over

inc increase

* or ** repeat whatever follows the * or **

 

Note: Two strands of yarn are held together throughout (one strand of Caron Simply Soft and one strand of Caron Cakes). 

When you reach the end of the ball of yarn, join a new ball using preferred method (e.g. magic knot). 

Ch 2 at beginning of row does NOT count as a stitch.

Stitch pattern is known as the Half-Double Crochet in the Two Front Loops.

Chain

Chain 72 (To change size of blanket, increase chain by any number)

Body

Row 1: hdc into the third chain in the hook, hdc in each chain until end, turn – 69 sts

Row 2 to 67:  Ch 2,  hdc2fl into each stitch until end, turn – 69 sts

Finish: Cut yarn, leaving a tail for weaving in. Fasten, weave in ends with yarn needle.
